Faun

A sweet guardian faun, looking after the babies of the Dama Gazelle, her closely related family.

I stumbled on a picture of the dama gazelle a while back which prompted me to make this piece. The adults have an intriguing pattern; they are mostly chalky white with a dark brown neck, where one white moon shaped spot breaks the even gradient. Their pitch black eyes and horns are also such a strong contrast to their white faces, it inspired me to make a faun based on this species.

This piece accidentally became a tribute to endangered species.
While painting I discovered the dama gazelle are apparently an endangered species.
The pangolin (the cute walking pine cone in the bottom left), one of my favorite little odd animals, is unfortunately also endangered. Very endangered. They are near impossible to breed in captivity and are illegally traded for their scales.
I thought this piece would be perfect to bring awareness to their plight;
